Many patients have come in for care due to ongoing knee pain who don’t remember having an event that injured their knee. What I often find is a pelvis bone has become misaligned, and this misalignment may have been ongoing long before they had knee pain.
Often, these patients have no hip pain or low back pain. The misaligned pelvis bone throws off their stride and they are unaware of it. This alters the alignment of their knee and changes the pressures in their knees as they walk or run. Eventually this inflames or even misaligns the knee and then they suddenly have an onset of knee pain. If left uncorrected, damage can occur in the cartilage of the knee that can only be repaired by surgery. So, don’t avoid dealing with knee pain if you are one of these patients.
Things to avoid doing if you have knee pain:
- Twisting on your knee
- Propping your foot up on something while sitting on the couch
- Running- runners often try to run through the pain, bad idea
